Botanical Name: Ilex paraguariensis
Country of Origin: Brazil
Production: Yerba Mate belongs to the Aquifoliaceae family, which is originally from the subtropical regions of South America, but is also present in the southern region of Brazil, and in the northern regions of Argentina and Paraguay. Our mate is grown in Brazil, in the wild among the local plants and animals, and is harvested every 2 years in alternating patches, so as to ensure a well developed plant and nutritional profile, with the intention of preserving the sustainability of the area. It was first consumed by the indigenous Guaraní and Quechua people who drank tea made from the leaves. In present-day South America (particularly Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Chile, and southern Brazil), yerba mate continues to be a widely consumed staple and is a celebrated part of everyday culture.
Qualities: Mate has been claimed to have many positive effects on human health. In some cases it has been shown to be useful as a weight loss tool, to improve the mood, and increase mental energy and focus.
Common Use: Mate is most commonly prepared as a tea. Traditionally, it is drunk from an apple-sized, hollow gourd (called mate in Spanish), through a metal straw (bombilla), refilled, and passed along. It is made by filling the gourd ¾ full with the dried leaves and then covering it with water that is hot but not boiling. Sugar may be added if desired. Mate can also be prepared with cold water or lemonade (called tereré).
Internationally, mate is enjoyed as a tea, in the traditional vessel or in tea bags. It has a bitter, yet refreshing flavor and is a well-balanced stimulant that provides energy and nutrition. The caffeine content of yerba mate varies between that of green tea and coffee. It can be prepared with milk, honey, lemon, mint, and many more delicious combinations.
Storage: Store sealed in a cool, dark, dry place.

Deliciously and FRESH like none other Ive tasted.
Very good product as usual but takes long time to get it
Excellent, however the company should improve the shipping speed
Great yerba for someone new to drinking maté!
I gave this 5 stars because it honestly was great and I use it often, very pleased with it also being organic and unroasted to the point that it has this fresher green flavour I am not typically used to. As a daughter to 2 Uruguayans, growing up drinking maté my whole life, this sure is not what I am used to (that being very dusty, potent 'cowboy' yerba) but I dont think I can judge it according to that. This is great yerba for tea drinkers and people who want to start somewhere easier when it comes to exploring mate. I personally now like to mix it with another dustier Brazilian yerba and its exactly what I prefer these days (feels like I am getting a little less caffeine that way).
Good quality and very fresh
This Yerba Mate is very fresh and very clean. The flavour is also a nice clean taste, with a hint of peppery notes. we find a flavour is much better by grinding the leaves, just slightly in a coffee grinder to a slightly smaller size and then we soak them overnight in just a small amount of water to release all of the flavours before preparing it into a tea the next morning. There are no stems or twigs in this it’s just appears to be the leaves. Good quality would highly recommend.
