About Our Products
-
We appreciate your conscientious approach to the foods you choose and your thoughtful concern for product quality and sourcing. We do, too!
The integrity and safety of our products are upheld through a combination of long-standing, trusted supplier relationships and comprehensive laboratory testing. Independent lab analyses are our primary source of objective verification, screening for heavy metals, microbial activity, pathogens, residues, and other safety indicators. These reports also provide critical information such as production dates, batch traceability, freshness, and quality metrics.
In addition to laboratory testing, we work exclusively with vetted suppliers and participate in regular third-party audits conducted by accredited certification and food-safety organizations, including USDA Organic and COR. These audits provide an additional layer of verification, ensuring that sourcing, handling, and labeling claims are accurate, transparent, and independently validated.
Through our supplier partnerships, documented testing protocols, third-party certifications, ongoing staff training, and more than a decade of experience and continuous learning, we ensure that every product we offer is thoroughly reviewed and screened to meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and integrity. -
We obtain COAs and/or spec sheets for our products through our suppliers. Since we currently do not conduct our own lab-retesting to re-verify the lab test information, we cannot offer any guarantees in regards to accuracy.
For the highest level of assurance, it is always advisable to obtain your own independent lab tests, especially if you are reselling products that you are manufacturing. -
We proudly support domestic and local agriculture and are grateful to work with farmers across the United States and Canada for grains, beans, dried fruits, nuts, and other crops that grow exceptionally well here in North America.
At the same time, we believe it is essential to acknowledge an important reality: our food system and our economy is inherently global. Every day, we rely on one another across borders to supply the foods, materials, and resources that shape our lives.
When we ignore this interdependence, we miss an opportunity to recognize the profound value of supporting organic agriculture beyond our own borders. In many regions of the world, farming is not just an occupation, it is one of the only viable economic pathways that allows families to earn a living outside of factories or exploitative industries. Supporting agriculture in these regions helps sustain communities, livelihoods, and traditions that depend on the land.
Enjoying foods such as chai spices, coffee, or chocolate should come with understanding and deep appreciation, not guilt or denial of the global farmers who make them possible. -
We believe organic certification is especially critical for imported foods. While US and Canadian worker-safety regulations are comparatively strong, many parts of the world lack adequate protections. Certified organic standards prohibit the most hazardous synthetic chemicals, significantly reducing toxic exposure and helping safeguard farmworkers who may otherwise lack protective equipment or healthcare.
Beyond human health, global organic agriculture supports healthier soils, protects water systems, and promotes long-term environmental sustainability.
Recognizing our global interconnectedness and intentionally supporting organic agriculture worldwide such as true cinnamon, spirulina, cacao, etc. is essential. Supporting organic both locally and globally is not a contradiction; it reflects a shared responsibility and respect for the people and ecosystems that nourish us all. -
In short, we continue to source select ingredients from China because we trust our partners there. That trust is built through long-standing relationships, extensive documentation, independent laboratory testing, third-party audits, and more than a decade of careful evaluation, learning, and hands-on experience. Based on this rigorous process, we remain confident in our decision to support our Chinese growers and suppliers.
Direct Relationships: We personally know many of our suppliers, often small, family-run operations who are deeply committed to farm integrity and frustrated by negative generalizations.
Transparency and Oversight: Global scrutiny prompts Chinese suppliers to be exceptionally proactive, voluntarily undergoing multiple audits, extensive testing, and overlapping certifications, consistently meeting and exceeding high standards.
Geographic Diversity: Given China's vastness, it's inaccurate to label the entire country as environmentally compromised. Large, agriculturally pristine areas produce high-quality ingredients.
Our thoughtful sourcing is not based on geography but on verified data, certification, and direct relationships. We support trusted Chinese growers whose practices align with our standards for organic integrity, safety, and sustainability. -
All products on our website that include the word “Organic” in the product title are certified organic by Pro-Cert, our accredited third-party organic certifier. On occasion, the word organic may be temporarily removed from a product title while we await label approvals or the completion of required documentation. During these periods, the product itself remains unchanged.
In addition to certified organic offerings, we also carry wild-harvested herbs, which do not fall under traditional organic certification frameworks, as well as naturally occurring products such as salts and clays that are not cultivated and therefore cannot be certified organic.
We do not sell conventional agricultural products. Whenever certification is possible, we choose certified organic ingredients - without exception. It is a core value of our company and, quite literally, part of our name. -
Even though we carry many gluten-free products, we are not a gluten-free facility. We do not test or rate the gluten content of any of our many products and therefore cannot guarantee that they are gluten-free. This being said, we have developed strict standard operating procedures in order to avoid cross-contamination during our packaging process and those who are just trying to avoid gluten in their diet should have no issue with our products. However, we recommend that if you are extremely sensitive to gluten, you only purchase products from a certified facility.

STAND UP POUCHES (SUP): When choosing our packaging, we prioritize food safety, durability, and sustainability. When the heat seal is cut away, they have a re-closable zipper. They are washable and make great bags for reuse. Our staff re-uses them all the time, for extra protection (silver/kraft), items that need thicker wall packing, or for usability as they can stand up on their own. You will commonly see herbs, spices, and powders in SUPs
ZIPLOCK BAGS: Commonly used for our 5lb size of GRAINS, BEANS, SEEDS, and NUTS. These bags can be used for long-term storage but we always recommend transferring products into glass jars or metal containers with an airtight seal to be sure to keep any critters out! Our zips are made from clear 4mil polyurethane - BPA-free, reclosable, and recyclable in some provinces or territories (check your local recycling guidelines for recycling soft plastics). We like to reuse our used bags for as long as possible. They are washable and are perfect in the fridge as produce bags and make great freezer bags.
CASE SIZES/WHOLESALE: Typically, anything that is over the size of 5-11lb, you might see arriving in bulk packaging which consists of Kraft Multi-Walled Bags, or cardboard boxes with plastic liners. This is common bulk industry packaging. In bags, you often see dried beans, grains, and flours, as well as sugar etc. In boxes, you will see dried fruits and nuts, as well as some herbs and spices.

General Principles: Store products in a cool, dry, dark place, away from heat, humidity, and sunlight. Once opened, transfer items to airtight glass or food-grade containers - but please note, we cannot accept quality complaints or return requests on items where the original packaging has not been kept. Use clean, dry utensils to prevent contamination. Keep maple syrup, misos, bee pollen, macadamia and pine nuts, flax oil and hemp oil refrigerated!
Rodent & Insect Protection: Use sealed glass, metal, or rigid plastic containers instead of “bags or cardboard”. Keep storage areas clean. Freeze dry goods for 48–72 hours before pantry storage to kill insect eggs.
Bulk Storage & Shelf Life: Divide bulk items into smaller airtight containers. Freeze unused portions for long-term storage. Rotate stock (first-in, first-out) and observe best-before dates.
Oils (Cold-Pressed & Specialty): Transfer to glass if possible. Keep tightly sealed, protected from heat, light, and oxygen. Store in a cool, dark cupboard, or refrigerate delicate oils to extend shelf life. Avoid water contamination; discard rancid oils.
Nuts, Seeds & Nut Flours: Store in airtight containers to prevent oxidation. Refrigeration is recommended; freezing is best for long-term storage.
Grains, Legumes, Culinary Seeds, Spices, Herbs & Seasonings: Store in airtight containers in a cool, dry pantry. Refrigeration or freezing extends shelf life and prevents pests.
Dried Fruits & Specialty Ingredients: Store airtight to prevent moisture changes. Refrigerate softer dried fruits after opening to prevent crystallization and guard against mold. -
We prioritize freshness and high quality by sourcing our products from the latest harvest and maintaining a rapid inventory turnover.
To ensure optimal quality, we refrigerate all temperature-sensitive items (including hemp oil, miso, maple syrup, bee pollen, and pine nuts) until the time of shipping.
For maximum shelf life, proper storage is key: a cool, dry, dark, and airtight environment.
Whole foods (e.g., whole grain kernels, legumes, and dried fruits) generally have a minimum shelf life of 2–3 years from the date of purchase.
Processed products (e.g., ground, flaked, cut, or roasted items) are more susceptible to oxidation but will remain good for approximately 1–2 years from the date of purchase under optimal storage conditions.
